It is with the greatest regret that I have to advise you of the death of Mr Geoffrey Simon, the Chairman of Wellington Market Company Plc.
Geoffrey had been the Executive Chairman of the Company since the 30th August 1995. In his time as Chairman the Company grew from being the operator of one retail market with a number of commercial properties to become the UK's leading operator of retail markets. Much of the credit for this success and growth must be attributed to the skill, experience and leadership of Geoffrey Simon. I am sure that everyone - shareholder, employee and market trader - will wish to join me in acknowledging the tremendous contribution he has made.
Geoffrey leaves Wellington Market Company with an experienced and able management team that is well placed to continue its ongoing management and expansion activities without any disruption to your Company's business. An appointment to the vacant position of the chairman will be made in due course.
